Language of Legitimization in Political Discourse on Kashmir Issue

This study concerns the discursive strategies used in political discourse to legitimize conflicting positions on Kashmir issue, a major issue between Pakistan and India. More specifically, has attempted address question of legitimization their linguistic realizations feature Pakistani Indian Prime Minister’s speeches after abrogation Article 370 about issue. The data consists Minister Imran Khan Narendra Modi delivered Kashmir. whole research been framed under scope Critical Discourse Analysis, have analyzed terms Reyes’ (2011) legitimization, Halliday’s (2014) Transitivity Model. analysis reveals that both prime ministers use emotion, hypothetical future, rationality, voice expertise, altruism justify respective attack opponents. Yet, they differ these mainly due different mental models communicative event rooted differing ideological perspectives. findings establish significance language as an analytical tool can help understand nature practices underlying certain ideologies.
